Industrial Revolution Links to Slavery – Hockley Jewellery Quarter

23rd October 2022 at 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm

23 October, 1pm – 2.30pm

Join this walk to explore the history of Birmingham, in particular the industrial revolution and its relationship to the transatlantic slave trade. Like many major cities, there is clear evidence that Birmingham developed and profited, directly and indirectly, from an economic and industrial system of human degradation and displacement.

This walking tour features the Birmingham Mint, chain making, dog collars used on slaves, the abolitionist movement and much more.

The walk starts and ends at the Rose Villa Tavern.

This event is part of the Lunar Society’s project ‘Birmingham’s Commonwealth Heritage – the Lunar Legacy’ funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund. The walk is delivered by Black Heritage Walks Network.

Tickets £11 (+£1.20 fees). Tickets can be booked from the BHWN website.
